Volunteers are the heartbeat of Foothill Family Shelter, infusing our mission with passion and purpose. Our family of volunteers plays a vital role in supporting Foothill Family Shelter's mission of providing housing and hope to homeless families. Their contributions are essential in various aspects of our operations, from assisting with daily shelter tasks to organizing fundraising events and offering support services to families in need. Volunteers bring diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives that enrich our programs and help us better serve our community. Their dedication and compassion create a welcoming and supportive environment. Without the dedication and generosity of our volunteers, it would be challenging to sustain the level of impact and support that Foothill Family Shelter provides. Volunteers are the cornerstone of our success, their contributions forming the foundation upon which we build brighter futures for those in need.

Volunteer Opportunities

We have many individual and group volunteer opportunities available. We would not be able to do the work we do each day without volunteerism, and we truly value each and every one of our volunteers. There are many ways to get involved. See below for just a few ways you can give back!

  • Community Help Desk

    Community Help Desk volunteers play a vital role in providing assistance to families in need. Their duties include answering phones to provide guidance to callers seeking assistance and directly serving walk-in clients.

  • Apartment Projects

    Volunteers can assist in various projects to maintain the apartments in our Housing Program, such as painting, cleaning, and general upkeep. Through their efforts, these volunteers ensure our families have a well-kept home during their stay in our program.

  • Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway

    Volunteers play a key role in the success of our Annual Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway through organizing donations, assembling baskets, and distributing those baskets to families in need on the day of the giveaway.

  • Group Projects

    Group volunteer projects provide an opportunity for companies and service clubs to work together to support our mission. These projects not only help us, but also provide a sense of purpose and camaraderie amongst the group.

  • Food Drives

    Volunteers play a crucial role in coordinating and facilitating Food Drives to support families facing hunger. Duties include organizing the event, promoting the drive to encourage community participation, and unloading donations on the day of the event.

  • Mailing Projects

    Volunteers support the organization’s outreach efforts by preparing important correspondence to supporters. This involves tasks such as stuffing envelopes and addressing labels in order to maintain effective communication of fundraising initiatives.

  • Special Events

    Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in special events such as our annual Gala and Cocktail Party. Specific duties include greeting guests, assisting with registration and check-in, and helping with event setup and decoration.

Volunteer Orientations serve as the gateway for individuals eager to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others through Foothill Family Shelter.
